Photo Searches Made Easy

Here are some additional AP Exchange photo searches to help speed things up for you when it comes to tracking down images in our new system. Try searching for Supplementary Category codes, or SuppCat for short. The way to do this is type suppcat= in the search box. For example, suppcat=OBIT.

Others: suppcat=ENT for entertainment ; suppcat=ADV for advances ; suppcat=WEA for weather. Capitilzation doesn't matter, we just used caps here for demo purposes.

Quick & Easy Searches

Do you know that many of the short codes you see on the AP Wire can be used to build hyperfast searches in AP Exchange. The best part is that you can save these searches. Saving a search gives you one-click access to the AP news you need to access most frequently. It's like building niche, customized feeds based on your specific needs. Here are some examples. Just type any of these into the search box:

BRF will give you all briefings; SCOTUS will get you all Supreme Court content; WKD will provide weekend content; TRV will get you travel material; XGR will give you legislative material; ENT for entertainment.

Searching for Optional Leads

For the past few months, AP has been offering you an optional lead on selected stories. These optional leads are either softer, longer or different altogether when compared to the original. We have found these leads are popular and there's an easy way to check for them in AP Exchange. In the homepage search box in the upper left corner, type slug=optional and these selected stories will pop up.

Search Training on Thursday

A friendly reminder to sign up for Thursday's School of Search training sessions. Two sessions on Thursday at 11am and 4:30pm ET. No charge. Sessions run 30mins and we focus exclusively on search tips and tricks. It's a great way to get a jump start on mastering search in Exchange. All you need to do is RSVP to talkback@ap.org. SIte Admin Training Today

It's Monday and that means our weekly Site Admin training session. The 60min session begins at 2pm ET. RSVP to talkback@ap.org. This session is designed to offer Site Admins all the background they need to get staff in their newsrooms up and running with AP Exchange. We cover all the background, account set-up, training and also a guided tour of AP Exchange. Site Admins are very important to the launch of AP Exchange and we use these Monday sessions to ensure Site Admins are well informed about the service. Hope you can make it!

Newsmaker Headshot Search

Here's a quick easy way to always have easy access to AP's Newsmaker Heasdshots. On the Homepage, press the PHOTO button at the top of the page. Then, type Newsmaker into the search box in the upper left corner. Tap Enter on your keyboard. You can then save this search by clicking Save Search at the top center of the Homepage. Once you click this, you'll be taken to the Save Search page, scroll down, give it a name, click Save and you are done! This save search will continue to generate all Newsmaker Headshots AP generates.

Going Crazy Looking for Sports Agate?

Using the AP Exchange 'Slug=' search can help you cut through the clutter and get sports data quickly. In the main search window, simply type slug= followed by one of the following agate formats:
